A Chair for Every Voice.
A Place for Everyone.

The Missing Seat is a people-centered movement built on one simple question: Who is missing?

Every person deserves a seat at the table. Every voice deserves to be heard. Every community is stronger when no one is left standing.

The Missing Seat is not about guilt. It is not about blame. It is not about division. It is about noticing. It is about asking who is missing, why they are missing, and what each of us can do to pull up another chair. Because every empty chair has a story.

Our Story

Every empty chair has a story.

I used to think a missing seat only meant someone had died. Now I know there are many kinds of missing seats. The employee whose ideas are ignored. The student who is told they don't belong. The neighbor nobody listens to. The voter who believes their voice doesn't matter. The person who walks into a room and immediately knows they are not fully welcome. Most missing seats aren't empty by accident. They become empty when people look away.

Most missing seats do not happen by accident. They remain empty when people look away, when silence feels easier, or when someone assumes another person will care enough to act.

The Chair symbol for The Missing Seat

The Chair

The Chair

The Chair is more than our symbol. It represents every person who should have had a seat at the table but didn't. Sometimes that seat is taken away by discrimination. Sometimes by poverty. Sometimes by disability. Sometimes by fear. Sometimes simply because nobody noticed. The Chair reminds us to notice who is missing—and to pull up another chair.
